FEATURES
Fluorescent optical fiber is doped with fluorescent substances and some rare elements in the core and cladding. The fluorescent substance absorbs light within a specific wavelength range, excites itself, and then emits fluorescence in all directions, of which the fluorescence whose radiation direction meets the total reflection condition at the core-cladding interface will be transmitted axially along the fiber. Compared with the commonly used communication fiber, fluorescent fiber can receive any direction of the incident light, rather than only receiving a range of light from the end face into the fiber (the so-called numerical aperture of the problem). The fluorescent material receives a certain wavelength (excited spectrum) of light, excited radiation of light energy. The peak wavelength of the excitation is different from the peak wavelength of the radiation, a phenomenon known as the Stokes frequency shift. For fluorescent molecules, the Stokes shift is about 100 to 200 nm, but this value is affected by other adulterants. The persistence of the luminescence after the excitation disappears depends on the lifetime of the excited state. This luminescence usually decays exponentially, and the time constant of the decay is called fluorescence lifetime or fluorescence decay time. Fluorescent doped polystyrene (PS) and PMMA are used as the core layer of the fiber, and fluorine resin is used as the skin layer. Fluorescent fibers have the normal light transmission function, but the most important feature is that they absorb light from the side and emit light from the end point.
